The Client
ValApp is a new solution for early stage companies and venture capitalists that allows them to value stock prices in a 30 minute questionairre, instead of weeks of back and forth with an accounting firm.
The Project
Take all the steps required to value stock prices, and show the information in a way that makes it easy for the average person to understand and fill out without a lot of help. The client provided knowlege of how the valuation process works, some very basic wireframes, and I did the rest.
What I did on the project
I did Product development, User Interface / User Experience and Visual design for this project, as well as basic branding and logo work for the company.
Process

Research
Stock Valuation is rather involved and complicated, and the first step was to understand as much as the process as possible. This included extensive interviews with the client to leverage thier expertise. I had them draw up very basic wireframes so I could understand the elements of each step.
Product Plan
Next, I built a product plan based on those wireframes, distilling each part of the process into simple, straightforward steps.
Options for functionality, look and feel
Various options were presented to the client - a multi-step, turbo-tax type version, and a longform scroll version with popups. Once a general direction was agreed upon, we went directly to UI design.

Various options for user experience and overall navigation
Pre-qualifying the user to better tailor the following pages.
Examples, a glossary, and simple diagrams were built to illustrate complex financial concepts.
Diagrams updated in real-time to give the user a better sense of scale.
User can mouse over each equity class, or each piece of the pie, to view the percentage. This graph also updates in real time.
